Blind Lemon brings a blues attitude to his guitar playing and singing - raw, full of emotion, soulful, authentic. With heartfelt, soulful vocals and a one-of-a-kind edgy guitar style, Blind Lemon Phillips makes every song his own. Blind Lemon Phillips brings joy and exuberance with him when he takes the stage. A wide range of repertoire keeps the energy up and dancers on the floor. He brings you well-known covers, rarely heard gems and illustrious originals.
It all started when Charley (a Buffalo, New York native) brought the worn-out hi-fi records back to life with his driving guitar riffs and powerful voice. Endless hours of listening to '70s rock, blues, country, soul and New Orleans funk distilled his sound into a rich brew - a new twist on American roots music. In the '90s, the Blind Lemon Phillips concept continued to evolve, delighting audiences in Charley's home state of Virginia. Phillips eventually moved to San Francisco to become part of the blues scene, where a fertile bed of musicians gave the project a new push of inspiration. Blind Lemon and company recorded its debut album at the world famous Hyde Street Studios to capture an exciting new sound. The result: FUNKYTOWN - Live @ Hyde Street is the band's calling card.
Relocating to Asheville, N.C. from San Francisco, Phillips returns to the south, where he lived his formative years as a musician, playing the clubs in and around the state of Virginia. With a new home base, Blind Lemon Phillips continues to expand his audience; in his favorite part of the country. In 2014, Blind Lemon Phillips released his first DVD - "Live @ Isis Music Hall - Brother Wolf Benefit". A concert in support of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, a "no kill" organization, located in Asheville, N.C. The DVD captures Phillips' gritty, down-home guitar and vocals and shines the spotlight on every member of his dynamic band.
And speaking of the band - they really know how to deliver - and feel at home, playing intimate venues and parties, to full scale concerts, festivals and corporate events. Blind Lemon Phillips can scale it's performance from 40 minutes to 4 hours, with non-stop funky originals and R&B covers, done the "Lemon" way
